Because of the 2003 declaration of the American war with Iraq, Adelle Lutz, a costume designer and artist, created a public project designed to remind the public that the victims of the war are mostly children and women. The project consisted of woman, dancers and teachers wearing had-painted burkas and walking through selected public spaces. The paintings depicted UN statistics like "23 million people live in Iraq. Half are children". I thought this project was very powerful. People wearing burkas with paintings is very surprising and shocking.
