Grand Central Terminal
(Grand
Central Station is a Beaux academic (Beaux Arts) building, is an underground
railway and subway station intersection. There are many in the hall hallway walkway, passengers
can access different waiting platform.)
Is a space will have people come and leave. No matter how
long they will stay they will still not stay long. The space contains the grand
stairs, the ticket windows, balconies with diners, shops for travels to buy
gifts, also have some bookstores. In 2011 November Grand Central has an apple
retail store inside the space. It seems like the entire space tried so hard to
break down people to go somewhere else. Which means the place that suppose to crowd
by people is not the most ‘public’ space anymore. By that I will define the
public space as contain so many people that don’t know each other. Not everyone
going Grand Central is to buy tickets. If anyone will go there for trains,
after they got the place they will either wait for the trains coming or they
will get some food before they got on the train. Also If we go the their web
site. It is no hard to see how they introduce the place like a shopping mall.
Which makes each store become more public than the Main concourse. Also because
the staircase that make the main concourse space have so many different levels.
When people stand on top of the staircase and just watch the space. Suddenly
the stair is not a place for transition and reach to other space. It starts to
become a place that people could stand or siting.
Time Square.
(Brightly lit and animated public advertising has been
transformed here into high art that not only obscures the facades of buildings
but can also actually become the entire facade. )
The number one place ever
to makes people focus on advertising more than the architecture it self. It is
the place that could mad all people not looking front or head down. And it is
the place even you want move fast buy still moving slow. Also if you want to
move slow but you can’t control it. No matter what the space mad the control.
Also people who were there will have made the decision. But it will be
different with what actually in your mind. The space itself will define as a
public space for everyone. But people who actually in the space will not just
speak one language. It is hard to catch what actually in their mind. What are
the final place people will be reaching. Also for people who worked at the
place it will be a private for them to work. They come from home then go Time
Square like they usually do. Once they go the work area, they will have to
focus on how can they do their work it is different when truism shocked by all
the screens of advertising play all the time. Imagine the NYPD small recruiting
station. People will also there at the place that full crowd. But they won’t
keep their eye on those screen or theatre place. They will still focus on
secure.

NEW YORK -- "A guy weighing about 280 pounds
walked in here with a loaded gun once," said Marine Corps Recruiter Staff
Sgt. Marco Cordero. "He sat down and wouldn't leave," said Cordero.
"He kept saying he was 'the real 50 cent,' and that he had to lay low from
the cops for a while." So, one of the recruiters from the Armed Forces
Recruiting Station in Times Square, N.Y., nonchalantly walked out of the
recruiting station and across the street to the police station. As the cops
surrounded the station and arrested the gun-brandishing visitor, Cordero
couldn't help but think to himself, "...only in New York.")
Bryant
Park
(The glades of large sycamore trees
under planted with ivy that frame and define the north, south and east edges of
the site are handsome oases that filter and soften the light and give visual
and physical respite from the surrounding urban hardscape. )
The
location surrounded by so many tall buildings like the Bank of America company,
Metlife, New York public Library. But the park it self feels like a quite
‘Oasis’. When you sit at the park place you surrounded by trees. When the
weather is good. You can see sunlight comes down from the tree and you can
enjoy the shadows. You won’t annoying by the traffic even all the four corner
will have all traffic light going around the place. But the sound will deduces
when you actually inside the Bryant Park. Bryant Park Fountain makes the
creature and avoids the sound from outside.
In
the winter especially during the Christmas when the park itself become an ice
skating playground. People make fun here and suddenly it will become a hot
place. Also at the time there will have so many small stores that come will
different countries product. And People will either shop here or enjoy the
music when you skating. Outside the park it will be different. People won’t
stay they would want to go to another place. People in rush and want to get
taxi and won’t stop. For people who in the Bryant Park time being frozen even
it is a Park that everyone can come and go but the place could be really
personal. They can enjoy launch or spend their coffee time here. It is the
place that busy guy could take the time and be relax.
